Toffee Bar Recipe

Yummy toffee bars are a mix of English toffee and shortbread cookies. They're like a cross between a cookie bar and a candy bar, and they're great for the holidays!

– 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature – 1 cup brown sugar, packed – 1 egg yolk – 1/4 tsp salt – 1 tsp vanilla – 2 cups all purpose flour – 7 1/4 ounces chocolate candy bars, broken into squares. I used Hershey's Special Dark chocolate, but milk chocolate or any other type you like is fine. – 1/2 cup toasted and chopped walnuts*

Warm the oven up to 350F. Spray your pan with cooking spray and put a piece of parchment paper inside it. This step is not required, but it makes it easier to cut the shortbread if you do it. If you'd rather, you can cut it right in the pan.

Cover the bottom of your pan with dough and press it down. Make sure your fingers are floured so that the spread is even, and then use an angled spatula to make it smooth.

Put it in the oven for 25 to 28 minutes, or until it starts to turn brown. Place the chocolate squares on top of the pan as soon as it comes out of the oven.
